EVENT: RIDE THE BELLARINE -SUNDAY THE 9TH OF APRIL

If you don’t have any plans for the weekend how about being part of Ride the Bellarine. The Bellarine Peninsula is one of Australia’s best riding destinations, and home to Tour de France champion Cadel Evans. It has something for everyone, with rail-trails, quiet roads, incredible scenery, and a mix of terrain to suit all fitness levels.

Ride the Bellarine takes in some of Victoria’s most scenic roads as it loops the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula. There are two great courses of 60km and 105km that will take you from the Eastern Gardens in East Geelong, along the Bellarine Rail Trail through the towns of Drysdale, Portarlington, St Leonards, Queenscliff, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads (Hi Cadel!), Armstrong Creek and returning through Geelong to Eastern Gardens. A truly beautiful ride!

Ride the Bellarine is put on by Rotary, one of the largest not-for-profit service organisations in the world. It’s a non-political, non-sectarian organisation open to all people, regardless of race, religion, gender, or political preference, with the motto “Service Above Self”. Ride the Bellarine is all about raising much needed funds for Rotary’s world wide effort to end Polio.

Poliomyelitis (polio) is an incurable, paralyzing and potentially fatal disease that still threatens children in some parts of the world. The poliovirus invades the nervous system and can cause total paralysis in a matter of hours. It can strike at any age but mainly affects children under five. It used to be quite common in Australia, however, it is completely vaccine-preventable and has been absent for decades.

Rotary has reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide since its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Hope to see you out there to help end polio.  See below for details.
